Mango: Too late to the dessert table or the cherry on top?

If I may ask, what is it with O/S developers naming systems after foods of a sweet nature? Fro-yo, Honeycomb, now Mango? Not that I am complaining, sweet things are the best and all the gadets coming out these days are some sweet pieces of tech!

So there is lots of buzz over the new windows phone coming out with a brand new O/S, code name Mango. Supposidly this phone has tons of new updates and features and tons of BING. According to many a leak, this has a hardware excelerated browser and HTML5 support. Microsoft also hopes this phone will appeal to the global audience with better language support, focusing mainly on non-latin scripts (chinese, japanese, korean.. etc.) As far as Bing goes, it will go beyond just being a browser platform. It will have the new Bing Vision and Bing Audio, these applications are also tied to a Microsoft store for your various searches.

I feel that Microsoft is following in Apples foot steps with the ‘one stop shopping’ basically. Whether or not it works remains to be seen, word has it while mango does great with multitasking its on its own programs but the introduction of third party apps messes with the flow. This issue has already been addressed and resolved by other systems, will that be the Mango’s great downfall? It remains to be seen. Let’s hope for Microsoft stock sake that the Mango isn’t too late to the party to make an impact. Although if it is too late, Microsoft always has Skype!

Who can deny their appreciation for a clever nerdy pun?

This is where we talk about your ‘empire’ also known as your business. As far as metaphors go, equating a company to an empire is, in my opinion, spot on. Another one that works is bees. Companies are like bee hives, bee hives are like empires. Regardless of the metaphoric circles I seem to be running around in today, the point remains the same. The point of a company is to start, profit, expand, an so on and so forth. Based on my own personal research (aka watching the same 9 films by a certain Mr. Lucas over and over for more than a decade.. or two..), empires are much the same. Expand, expand, expand, light saber duel, expand.. You get the picture.

Anyways, to the point, We here at Microgigz are your storm troopers in your plan to extend you empire. Call us today!

Climbing the mobile app Everest

So breezing through the Google headlines this morning for a headline different from all the rest, I came across an article about being a top 25 mobile app and how to stay there. We all know that mobile apps are the new idea that makes the world spin ’round and that’s a great thing. I won’t confess to anything less than being tied lock and stock to my Android and Apple products. Where else can I have my books, photos, music, banking, and entertainment all in one tiny and shiny package? Being in the top 25 in the iTunes store is nothing short of a huge honor and is equally as difficult to stay there as it was getting there. No one will tell you while developing an app that being a top app isn’t one of their goals, as it should be.

Apple has its own, closely guarded algorithm for determining where an application lands. There are, or course, other forces at work that push apps into popularity–such as news stories about the apps, or the good fortune of an app being featured by Apple. But with a combination of luck, timing, marketing, and savvy development, small companies like Rovio have created their own tool kits for staying on top.

Of course, it helps if you have an addictive game such as Angry Birds, with a nice movie tie-in like the recently released animated film “Rio.” But fun, bird-based projectile games aside, there are tricks and strategies for making it onto Apple’s list and staying there, such as formulating a constant stream of updates, adjusting the price tag, and giving users a way to spread the word about the app.

I wont deny, Angry Birds is beyond addictive, and an app that makes my life easier is getting downloaded pronto! This article has alot of great points that are worth the read to get some insight to take your app to the top level.

Head stuck in the Cloud?

You can’t seem to go a single day anymore without seeing Mobile this, Android/Apple that, or Cloud something-or-other listed among Google’s many news articles. We know that mobile has changed the way that we live and work, and life is very unlikely to return to pre-cell days. Mobile devices is something that everyone, down to most kids, recognize and understand its function and what to do with it. Since technology has a way of being.. light speed.. Here is a new(ish) technology that is rapidly changing the way we live.

Enter the Cloud. No, Not the big puffy ones in the sky, although those are nice too (when they aren’t gray and never ending). Rather, I am talking about Cloud Computing. The easiest way that this could be explained is this : Think of the utilities that you might use in your house; gas, electric, water, etc.. Instead of providing your own means to access these necessities, they are mass produced/monitored and distributed, saving you time, hassle as well as materials. How this relates to cloud computing is the cloud is the power company, expending the resources to create a massive hard drive for you to save all of your precious information on, and now you can access the information from any computer with an internet connection. This eliminates the worry of backing up precious files (Though you should even if you are using a cloud) in case of a virus or a systems crash.

We all know you have done the file dance. Moving the file from folder to folder, copying and making new folders to transfer to another computer via CD or USB drive, or uploaded to a phone or tablet. Stowing a USB drive on your person to bring files back and forth to work, to meetings, to wherever. Clouds eliminate that dance.

The big providers of clouds right now include Amazon, Google, Microsoft, as well as several other large however not household technology names. Clouds are even available under Android an Apple apps such as SugarSync.

Thinking back on how much life has change since simple things like cellphones and Facebook. It makes your wonder how the next technological step will change our lives next…

Well here we are halfway through our first full week under an open sign, and it is going great! Just today alone we were able to complete several technical interviews and get the parties started for several new clients.

Site builds and flash banners, just a few of our favorite things.. Not to mention our new iPads. Having lots of fun on the brand new iPad 2. Lighter(on your wallet) and faster… kind of like Microgigz huh?

Whats next on our to do list you ask? Well, we have recently joined Elance, oDesk, and Freelancer.com. We will be seeking out projects for bids to add to our rapidly expanding horizons.
